Gynecomastia in Bodybuilders - Patient 39
This is a 23 year old male from Hudson County, NJ, who is 6'0 and weighs 200 pounds. He had been training as a bodybuilder for many years, but despite his excellent physical condition, he had developed Gynecomastia, a condition in which there is a build up of mammary tissue on the muscles of the chest which causes the breasts to become enlarged. The patient became frustrated because points were being deducted in competition due to the appearance of his chest, which was a huge interference in his career. After discussing his concerns with other bodybuilder peers, he was referred to Dr. Blau, board certified plastic surgeon and a diplomate of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. He was impressed to learn of Dr. Blau's superlative reputation throughout the world as the leading authority in Gynecomastia surgery and that he is a well-accomplished author on the subject. Surgery was performed in which the mammary tissue was excised. The patient was cautioned to avoid supplements such as fish oil prior to the procedure as this could cause excessive bleeding. The surgery was a success and the patient is extremely pleased with the results.
