Gynecomastia in Adolescents - Patient 6
This 19 year old Passaic County, NY (northern NJ) young man, who is 5'7 and 166 pounds, developed Gynecomastia during his adolescence. This is a condition that results from a formation of mammary tissue located beneath the male breast that results in the breast to become enlarged. He felt self-conscious about the appearance of his chest and refrained from removing his shirt in public for fear of being ridiculed by his peers. He decided to consult with Dr. Mordcai Blau, board certified plastic surgeon with over 20 years experience. He was happy to learn that Dr. Blau is hailed throughout the world as a head authority in Gynecomastia surgery and that over 50% of his practice is dedicated to the correction of the condition. Dr. Blau explained that 30% to 60% of adolescents develop Gynecomastia during puberty, commonly between the ages of 8 and 12, and although milder cases will resolve with age (by age 17), severe of tubular cases will not dissipate with maturity. With Dr. Blau's advice, the patient decided upon male breast reduction surgery to correct the condition. The procedure involved the excision of the mammary tissue followed by a small amount of liposuction. The incision is small and discreet. The patient is extremely happy with the outcome and no longer feels embarrassed to remove his shirt in public.
