Gynecomastia in Adolescents - Patient 29
This 17 year old patient from Jacksonville, FL, who is 5'9 and weighs 150 lbs had endured Gynecomastia, a condition in which an abnormal development of glandular tissue causes and enlargement of the male breast. This is a condition that affects up to 40% of male adolescents, usually by the age of 14. It is often corrected in 75% children within 2 years and 90% of children within 3 years, however, in this patient's situation, the condition was severe enough that it would not resolve on its own. The teen and his parents consulted with Dr. Mordcai Blau, board certified plastic surgeon with over 20 years experience because they were impressed at his success rate of other adolescents suffering from the same severe condition. Dr. Blau suggested Gynecomastia (male breast reduction) surgery, in which the family agreed. The procedure involved the excision of the excess glandular tissue and a small amount of liposuction. The outcome was a success and the teen no longer felt embarrassed about his appearance. This patient from Jacksonville, Fl, and his parents were very pleased with the results.
