Gynecomastia in Adolescents - Patient 29
This 14 year old teen from Dallas, TX, who is 5'10 and weighed 205 pounds, suffered from a severe form of Gynecomastia, a condition in which the mammary glands develop to an abnormally large size. Mild Gynecomastia is common in adolescents from the ages of 12 to 18 and often the condition corrects itself within 2 or 3 years but in severe cases, such as this patient, the condition will not disappear with age. Because of the severity of his condition, his parents feared for his psychological well-being in the future and made the decision to consult with Dr. Blau, board certified plastic surgeon. Hailing over 20 years of experience, Dr. Blau is a diplomat of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and is also a world-authority on the subject of Gynecomastia. He has successfully treated countless patients with varying degrees of Gynecomastia, many of them adolescents. It was agreed by all that the best option for the boy was male breast reduction surgery. The procedure involved the excision of the over-developed mammary tissue along with liposuction. The surgery was a success and the young man from Dallas, TX and his parents were extremely happy with the outcome and the patient is enjoying a new self-confidence.
