Gynecomastia in Adolescents - Patient 14
This is a 17 year old Westchester, NY patient who began developing Gynecomastia in early puberty. This condition results from a formation of mammary tissue underneath the male breast causing the breast to become enlarged. This is an condition that commonly afflicts young boys as early as 8 years of age. In mild cases the enlargement will often dissolve by the time the boy is 17, but in severe or tubular cases, such as with this patient, the condition will often remain throughout life unless it is corrected surgically. The young man was embarrassed by the appearance of his chest and was constantly teased by his peers. He and his parents agreed that surgical correction was the best resolution. They consulted with Dr. Blau upon learning of his superlative reputation as a leading authority around the world in Gynecomastia surgery and that he had corrected the condition in many other adolescent boys. Male breast reduction surgery was performed, excising the mammary tissue along with liposculpture. The incision is only 1 inch in length and inconspicuous. The young man is very happy with the results and his parents already notice a new level of confidence in his behavior.
